এনজিও’র সূত্রপাত : ১৯৯১ সালের ফেব্রুয়ারী-মার্চ মাসের দিকে সাতক্ষীরা জেলার কালীগঞ্জ উপজেলার বেনাদনা ও পানিয়া গ্রামের কিছু তরুণ প্রথম সুশীলন প্রতিষ্ঠার উদ্যোগ গ্রহণ করে। জুন-জুলাই-এ শুরু হয় কৃষ্ণনগর ইউনিয়নে মাঠ পর্যায়ে কার্যক্রমের প্রস্তুতি গ্রহণ, তারপর শুরু হলো টেবিলকে ব্ল্যাক বোর্ড হিসেবে ব্যবহার করে কর্মী প্রশিক্ষণ। অবশেষে নভেম্বর মাসে কৃষ্ণনগর ইউনিয়নে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে দরিদ্র মানুষ নিয়ে দল গঠনের লক্ষ্যে সম্ভাব্য নেতাদের ওরিয়েন্টেশনের মাধ্যমে সুশীলনের বাস্তব পথযাত্রা শুরু।


একটি কাজ সম্পাদনের জন্য চাই- ‘উদ্দীপ্ত মানুষ’, ‘জাগ্রত মানুষ’, ‘সত্য মানুষ’। যার মধ্যে দেশকে নিয়ে বেদনা থাকবে। সে হয়ে উঠবে ‘আমি’ এবং সেই ‘আমি’ থেকে ‘আমরা’তে রূপান্তরিত হবে; হবে- ‘উদ্দীপ্ত মানুষ’, ‘জাগ্রত মানুষ’, ‘সত্য মানুষ’। এই ‘মানুষের’ মধ্যে থাকবে সামাজিক দায়বদ্ধতা ও সেবা পরায়ন মনোবৃত্তি (মিশনারী জিল)।


আরোপিত সংস্কৃতি দিয়ে সমাজ এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়া যায় না। উন্নয়নের জন্য প্রয়োজন নিজস্বতার। কৃষক-শ্রমিক ও হত-দরিদ্র মানুষ অনেক স্বপ্ন নিয়ে অস্ত্র হাতে যুদ্ধ করে দেশ স্বাধীন করে আবার নিজের কাজে ফিরে এসে অপেক্ষা করছে, রাষ্ট্র তাঁদের মানুষ হিসেবে বাঁচার ব্যবস্থা করবে। রাষ্ট্রের সেই আরদ্ধ কাজ অভিনবত্ব দিয়ে সুশীলন সহযোগিতা করতে চায়।


দেশের উন্নয়নে, দেশের কোন না কোন প্রজন্মকে নিজেদের সুখ-শান্তি-আনন্দ ত্যাগ করতে হয়। সুশীলন সেই ত্যাগী মানুষ সৃষ্টির একটি প্রক্রিয়া নির্মাণ করতে চায়। জন সংগঠন তৈরী ও নেতৃত্ব বিকাশের মাধ্যমে জনগণের, ‘জনগণের জন্য’, ‘জনগণের দ্বারা’ উন্নয়নের মাধ্যমে মানুষকে সামনে অগ্রসর করার জন্য সুশীলন একটি কার্যকরী, দক্ষ, গতিশীল নেতৃত্ব সম্পন্ন জনগণের সংগঠন হিসেবে আত্মপ্রকাশ করতে এবং উপরোক্ত আদর্শে সুশীলনের প্রতিটি কর্মী নিজের তথা দেশের উন্নয়নে ভূমিকা রাখতে চায়, যা মানুষের কল্যাণে ভূমিকা পালন করতে সক্ষম হবে।

Shushilan is a national Non Government Organization for development of eco-sensitive community, established in 1991 and ever change its inception started working to address the problems of coastal people related to resource management and good governance. As per Shushilan’s strategic direction the results and learnings of the initiatives will be replicated in all other areas of the country.  Shushilan has so far been working in union 855, 197 Upazilas of  37 districts under 7 divisions. It has been implementing 5 programs through 2000 of its skilled staffs for the welfare of the poor and vulnerable communities. I express my heartfelt gratitude to our GoB, donors, development partners and beloved staffs for their support and cooperation but for which it would have been impossible for Shushilan to help development of poor and destitute millions of people. Throughout its life cycle of 24 years Shushilan has so far taken up 262 projects completing 234 with 28 in running condition. Shushilan has so far extended its development support to about 07 millions development partners. Apart from 0.7 millions disaster victims of the past, it has been extending its support to 0.5 millions families at present. So far as its contribution towards management of water resources is concerned Shushilan has excavated and re-excavated more than 100 no. of canals and 150 no. of ponds. It has also helped cancellation of lease deeds of 100 no. of Khash ponds. To ensure good governance it has organized 6000 people’s organization consisting of one lac twenty five thousands community members capable of playing positive role in social transformation. Realization of Shushilan’s dream depends on the dedication and capacity of staffs for serving the most backward and vulnerable millions. Let my cordial thanks go to all, helping one way or other in Shushilan’s development initiatives and with the help of donor community could maximize the support for the broader impact of societies.

Shushilan At a Glance:
 
Shushilan, a Bengali name signifying endeavors for a better future, is a national non government development organization set up in 1991 and holding consultative status of NGO Branch, ECOSOC of the United Nations (UN). A number of young social workers of the village Benadona and Pania, Shatkhira District, Bangladesh established Shushilan. Present Chief Executive Mostafa Nuruzzaman is the founder of the organization. Shushilan is an organization for development of Eco – sensitive community of the Sundarbans and its vicinity. The organization registered from Department of Social Welfare (Satkhira-94/91/98), NGO Affairs Bureau (NGO Affairs Bureau-768/93) and other available sections and Governing Body consist of EC (7) and General Committee (23).
 
The organization’s program approaches are transforming over 23 years to improve quality projects for the poor, vulnerable and needy people with especial focus on coastal zone areas. Shushilan has undertaken Socio economic development, education & ICT and Health & Nutrition, Disaster, climate change and environmental resource management, Human rights and good governance, Sustainable people’s organization programs. Throughout the period Shushilan has developed high experience and capacity on those areas. So far, Shuhsilan has successfully implemented 173 different projects and currently implementing 59 projects with different donors, government organizations and international development partners.  Shushilan origin in Satkhira and the existing projects are in 7 Divisions, 32 Districts, 164 Upazilas and 780 Unions.
 
Shushilan is implementing its program activities through 44 offices including head office in Khulna. Additionally, Shushilan has 754 regular staff and 814 paid volunteer with multi experienced in Management, Health & Nutrition, Education, Finance, Gender, DRR, Food Security, Agriculture, institutional capacity building, Engineer, Research, Training, etc. Currently the organization is supporting 71, 99,874 participants. Shushilan is the member of different network both at local and national level and work for the betterment of the beneficiaries.  The organization is committed to focus on holistic development and encompassing management framework with the participation of development partners, donor, government, NGOs, community and private sectors.

 Our Culture

Shushilan always respects the culture of the society ,community, National & International. The organization is like to show its positiveness , interest , we feeling to each other like Shushilan has its own cultural song. Therefore, Shushilan observed the different cultural events and has developed many cultural processes in its system & practice.
