Organizational Background

Social Advancement Community Organization (SACO) started its journey since 2002 from a neglected village name Sharisamuri of Betagi upazila in Barguna district. The SACO is a non government, non political and non profitable local organization. Initially the organization starts some social works like help neglected people for access to public asset, practicing traditional cultural program, free coaching for poor student and awareness building for human rights, early marriage, and respect to senior citizen. Meanwhile the organization started different projects/program with different GoB department, national & international donors and UN Agency.

Summery Statement about SACO:

SACO is involved with different development work as a local NGO. The organization is based in Barguna district. In this statement the total activities of the SACO is being reflected very briefly. Our activities mainly covering Barguna, Patuakhali, Comilla and Bagerhat district.

The organization is registered with Department of Social welfare, NGO Bureau, Jubo Unnayan Department and Microcredit Regulatory authority. It have also PADOR ID and SAM registration. SACO have two sister organizations like SACO Enterprise and Cooperative group.

The major activities of the organization are: Access to Public Asset for Poor, Relief and Rehabilitation Activities, Human Rights, Children Education, Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change, IGA through Agro-based Activities, Food Security, Water and Sanitation, Rakhain Land Rights, Maize Cultivation, Help for Aged People, Bondhu Chula Distribution, Water Management, Solar Home System etc for which about 70000 beneficiaries have been benefitted.               

All activities are done through Community based organization(CBO). SACO believes self help group is the best for work for the beneficiaries. The main donors of SACO are : BRAC, SUSULAN, RDF, USAID-WorldFish Center, Oxfam GB, VSO, IDE, HelpAge International, UNICEF-NGO Forum, CARE Bangladesh, FAO United Nation, USAID-CSISA-CIMMYT, GIZ-SJ. USAID-DAI-AVC and GoB.

The organization has been working very smoothly keeping cooperation with different stakeholders and different Government departments like DC, DD agriculture, DFO, DLO, DWAO, UNO, DPHE, AEO, UFO, ULO, UWAO, Paorashava Mayors, Upazila and UP chairmen, donors, other NGOs, Political person, Elite person, etc. Local administration are also cooperating SACO in every initiatives. SACO always observes all types of national and international days with GoB and NGO collaboration.

SACO believes the major reason of our success is slow and steady as well as smooth working ideas while implementing programs. Our patient is another success for achieving the goal of projects. We are obliged to them and looking forward to receive their support in the coming days as well.  

The main asset of the organization is our beneficiaries who have been accepted our activities for their benefit and local level reputation.

SACO has 21 general body members which is the height body of the organization. Every year there is an annual general meeting where major decisions were taken and approved by them.


There are 07 members executive body in the organization which is elected by general body members every after two years and that body is being approved by respective   Government registration authority. Executive Committee meeting held every after six months where reviewing all progress of the activities as well as any decision made by general body meeting. Executive Director is fully responsible for projects/programs operational activities as per Organogram.

Financial Management:

SACO has accounts back ground financial management staffs. All bills and vouchers are preparing and posting in the cash & ledger book daily basis. All financial transactions are doing through bank account. There is a mother accounts for receiving donor fund. A standard financial manual are using for financial management. Every financial year a reputed “Chartered Account Audit Firm” is auditing the accounts and preparing an annual audit report. The financial condition of SACO is sound.
